3D displays or TVs need you to wear 3D glasses in order to enjoy the 3D images and videos. But it’ll be kind of inconvenient having to wear glasses and it adds extra costs for having to equip all your family members with 3D glasses. Fortunately, an LA-based company has developed their i3D 3D displays which needn’t the the users to wear 3D glasses to enjoy 3D movies.

The i3D glasses-free displays come in 7 inches in size, which allows 3D viewing at close to 90-degrees. The 3D effect on the 7-inch scren is actually based on the company’s proprietary hardware and software.

It’s also capable of converting 2D to 3D on the fly, by simply tapping on a button, the screen is able to convert from 2D to 3D right away. Some more the i3D claims it’s able to convert any resolution programming.

Well, the i3d is still in its early prototype stage, it’ll probably take a couple of years for this technology to become real. Perhaps the Nintendo 3DS also uses the same glasses-free 3D technology? Watch the clip on how it works on Engadget.
