You may have been worried about the very private cellphone conversation between you and your loved ones or your business partners being overheard by someone nearby. So, sometimes you wish to just whisper on the mouth piece of the cellphone and hope the one on the other end to be able to hear it.

With the lip-reading technology, soon, cellphones will be equipped with the capability to read your lips and even you whisper on the phone or just move your lips, the person on the other end of the call will be able to get what you’re trying to say.

The lip-reading technology is being developed by Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), which is based on the the principle of electromyography, allows the users to communicate with mouth movements, similar to speech, but with no sounds produced.

The movements of your lips will be correctly interpreted and transferred over to the person on the other end of the call. An example of applications is you can communicate soundlessly while wanting to tell confidential information such as passwords or pin numbers to person on the other end. It’s the best way to prevent from getting eavesdropped by others.
