Most netbook laptops are running either Linux or the more user-friendly Windows XP, but Microsoft never intended XP to live on in this form. Windows Vista, however, was not very netbook friendly, so XP survived to fill the game. The next Microsoft OS, Windows 7, has been developed to better serve the netbook market and can finally allow XP to fade into the past, while providing netbook users with a superior operating system that’s contemporary and powerful.

Netbook-maker MSI has announced that their MSI Wind U150, due out in 2010, will feature Windows 7, ushering in a new era for the netbook. The U150 will also feature a very useful touchscreen LCD display for direct interaction with the operating system. According to early reports, however, the touchscreen will be “resistive,” which is a cost-effective, durable screen that has a hard outer coating. This is in contrast to a “capacitive” touchscreen, which is more accurate and allows more light to be transmitted from the screen. A resistive screen is incapable of utilizing the “multi-touch” capabilities of Windows 7 that a capacitive screen could handle.
